Intern Spotlight - Colton Hauder
Jul 19, 2023
Meet Colton Hauder! This summer Colton is a grain operations intern located at the Ruby location.
Where are you from?
I grew up on a farm just outside of Milford, NE.
Where do you go to school and what are you studying?
I am going to be a sophomore at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and I am studying Agribusiness.
Why did you choose to be an intern with Farmers Cooperative?
I have always known the company growing up in the area and they have a good reputation with my family. My dad is a member owner, and Farmers Cooperative always satisfies his needs with what he needs for his operation, they are very timely. I wanted to learn more about the company and what they have to offer.
What are some of your day-to-day activities?
Some of my day-to-day tasks include loading grain trucks, sweeping grain bins, making feed deliveries, moving grass, and other maintenance around the location.
What is one thing that you've learned so far this summer?
I have learned more on the grain side of things, like how much a semi-truck can hold depending on the number of axles that it has. Also, just how all the facilities and equipment run, like the grain sweeps and other grain bin equipment. I didn't know too much about that side of things before my internship.
What has been your favorite part of your internship thus far?
I like all of the tours that we have done like going to Frankfort Grain Shuttle and the Beatrice Feed Mill. I have enjoyed just getting to tour and see all of the moving pieces that go into all of the different locations and different sides of the business. I also like professional development day and getting to learn more about our strengths and how to play into them.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I would say that I'm an avid golfer, I like to golf.
What would be your dream job, or what is a job that you plan to pursue post-graduation?
I definitely want to be in the agriculture field, probably along the lines of business management, but I'm not entirely sure. I just know that I want to be in the ag industry, I still have time to figure it out since I'm only going into my sophomore year of college.
