Skills for Success

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Employees may not always have the skills or knowledge to do the jobs required when they start for us. We understand that and will work with any employee we hire to obtain the skills and grow into each position. Day one is spent at orientation learning more about the company and basic knowledge on important safety topics partnered with hands-on application of those safety topics.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Once employed, employees may want to further develop their leadership abilities to advance their career and challenge themselves. We offer a Leadership Development Program that consists of multiple sessions in which nominated participants will obtain leadership skills, management exposure, identify their top strengths, and learn more about themselves as individuals.

MANAGER DEVELOPMENT

We annually provide learning workshops to provide our managers more knowledge on leading people while also providing manager trainee opportunities. As a new manager, you will attend multiple sessions to set you up for success in your new role.

EMPLOYEE WORKSHOPS

We continue to grow these development opportunities and have provided sessions on customer service, partnered with our vendors to provide technical knowledge; and, along with our safety team, provide hands-on knowledge on operating our facilities safely.

CDL PROGRAM

Employees who may want to earn their CDL can do so through Farmers Cooperative and the local partnerships we have to complete the necessary requirements. We pay the cost and provide the opportunity for driving practice and skills needed.

OTHER CERTIFICATIONS

Between forklift certification, hazmat endorsement, commercial pesticide applicators license, professional certifications, or other certifications employees may be interested in, we will help our employees obtain what they need to do their job and further develop their skills.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Local area college students are paired with mentors at our locations to learn real world job skills and experiences in agronomy, grain, feed, marketing, or other roles of interest. This program continues to provide full-time career opportunities once completed and puts an individual on track to advance their career.

JOB SHADOW PROGRAM

A new program we have created allows local high school students to shadow employees at our locations in their career areas of interest to gain a better understanding of the work force and industry they may want to work or attend college in.

Developing Skills for Success

Farmers Cooperative is committed to the development of our employees. We believe that our employees are our greatest asset, and we invest in their growth and development so they can continue to provide our customers with the best possible service.

The knowledge and abilities needed in today’s work environment rapidly evolve and it is our job at Farmers Cooperative to develop those needed to best serve our member owners. We will continue to expand our development programs as we explore continued education and other ways to further grow the skills our employees need to be successful.
